As I was saying and more importantly . . .

Mon., March 10, 2003 - Nancy took me to appointment with Dr. Semin in p.m.  Played cards in evening and stopped afterward at Dolores' to play Rummikub.  Mary brought me a bouquet of 10 daffodils -- very, very pretty.

Tues., March 11, 2003 - The HandiVan took me to my hair appointment.  The maintenance man put a new seat on the toilet stool.  Dolores came in evening.  She had a new game of Dominoes.  We played several games and then some Rummikub.

Wed., March 12, 2003 - Katie Bleich called to tell me she would be visiting me tomorrow.  Went to Book Club this evening.

So much for my remark that posting twice a week would be no big deal.  (That is what I wrote, right?)  Oh, well.  I'm here now.

I remember well the daffodil bouquet.  It was a fundraiser for The Cancer Society and I bought three or four bouquets each year.  They were still unopened buds when I picked them up, and it was fun to watch them do their thing.  Oddly enough, I was thinking of that fundraiser just the other day and wondered if they were still doing it.

More important than flowers is the newest family member.  Ottie Pope Bowder was born to happy parents Dane and Alison and big sister Willa on April 21.  It's so lovely to have good news since the last couple of years have been a bit dreary in many respects.  Plus, she's pretty cute.

Watching movies

Wed., December 25, 2002 - Nancy & I went to Dale's.  We ate about 2:00.  Lynn's brother Rod & family were there -- Mary, Mitch & Anna were there, too.  Nancy called Greta before we went to Dale's -- had a nice visit.  We went home about 4:30.  I watched some movies in the evening.
Thurs., December 26, 2002 - Myrtle called about 10:30.  Tom forgot it was Thurs. -- came late.  Usual things accomplished -- laundry, etc.
Fri., December 27, 2002 - Dolores took me to have my hair-do.  Mary brought me home.

For some reason, the fact that Grandma would watch movies at all hours of the day and night, even into the wee hours, tickled me.  I'm glad she enjoyed them.  I know we discussed movies every now and then.  We might even on December 27 when I took her home from her hair-do since she usually fed me lunch on those days.

For no reason other than I like it lots, here's a photo of Kyleah and Willa and Mom.

Baking peppernuts

Mon., December 16, 2002 - Went to Christmas party in the lobby.  Nancy, Mary, Mitch & Anna came in evening & baked the peppernuts.
Tue., December 17, 2002 - Pacemaker checked at noon.  Dolores took me for my hairdo & Mary brought me home.  The Home Nurse came about 3:00.  In the evening Wayne, Ethel, Grace, Bob B., Helen Donaldson & I went to The Legacy to play cards with Alice Weaver who had lived here until this summer.
Wed., December 18, 2002 - Called Myrtle this morning.  I thought this was Thursday.  Went to Book Club in evening.

Still have very fond memories of both making and eating peppernuts.  Always torn between letting them sit in my mouth and get soft, and enjoying the nice crunch.

I've been watching baking competition shows lately.  Maybe I'll try a gingerbread house next Christmas.  Or maybe not.  Will try some less involved recipes from the shows, though, for sure.

Here's a recent photo of Willa doing her best Anna impression.

Sandwiches

Tues., October 15, 2002 - This was my dad's birthday.  Had my hair washed, etc.  Nancy came after work & took me to "Jim's", a place that specializes in home health.  New "skis" were put on my walker -- take the place of the tennis balls (Called Greta to report on dental deal).  We then went to Staufers' Restaurant & had chicken fried steak, etc.  Was really good.
Wed., October 16, 2002 - Went to Book Club in evening.
Thurs., October 17, 2002 - Called Myrtle this morning.  Also called Marjorie C.  Tom came in evening & brought some special sandwiches.  The usual routine of laundry, shower & Rummikub.

Speaking of special sandwiches . . . Mitch, Mom and I hosted 15 of our family members (plus Tanner and Willa) for a meal Sunday at Mom's of traditional Danish open-faced sandwiches.  Well, we researched and were as traditional as we could manage.  We were a bit nervous as to whether everyone would like the nutty, malty Danish bread but very little of anything went in the trash at the end of the meal.

Afterwards, some of us played Squeak -- something we had not done after a family meal in a very long time.  Needless to say, it was great fun.  So glad everyone could come and that they enjoyed our efforts.  We should probably do it again sometime, I think.
