Gearing up for Christmas

Sat., December 7, 2002 - Finished addressing most of my Christmas cards.  Talked to Greta in p.m.  Mary brought meat of 2 wild ducks & 1 wild goose.  Friends of hers hunt but don't care for the meat.  They skin the birds & then cut off the meat.  I soaked the meat in cold water.
Sun., December 8, 2002 - Nancy came at noon & brought KFC - I had potatoes & fried apples ready.  I showered & she did some cleaning.  Mitch & Anna here while Mary went to a meeting at Zoya's.  We played UNO.
Mon., December 9, 2002 - Mailed 11 Xmas cards.  Played cards tonight.  Dolores came (I baked 4 loaves of pumpkin bread) here afterward & we played Rummikub.

Now I do remember getting the duck and goose meat from my former co-worker.  I do not recall specifically giving it to Grandma, but I obviously did.  Half of a memory is better than none at all, right?

For no reason whatsoever, here's a recipe.  :-)

Getting back to normal

Wed., December 4, 2002 - Had Meals on Wheels today.  Nancy & I to the Lied Center tonight to see & hear The Three Irish Tenors.  Dale took us there & then came & took us home.
Thurs., December 5, 2002 - Meals on Wheels again.  Tom called in a.m. that they came home last night.  He came in evening & brought our meal -- barbecued ribs.  I showered.  We didn't play Rummikub -- Tom was to tired.  Myrtle called today.
Fri., December 6, 2002 - Meals on Wheels again.  The Home Nurse came in p.m.  Went downstairs this evening & saw "Heidi".

Ah, Heidi.  Such a fun book and movie.  I think it was one of Grandma's favorites.  I know I was young when I was first aware of it, but not sure how young, nor the when or where of it all.  I learned the following from wikipedia just now (where I also found the photo):

1.  It was written as a book "for children and those who love children" (as quoted from its subtitle).

2.  Heidi is one of the best-selling books ever written and is among the best-known works of Swiss literature.

3.  Thirteen English translations were done between 1882 and 1959, by British and American translators.

4.  About 25 film or television productions of the original story have been made, from 1937 to 2017.

Short and sweet

Sun., December 1, 2002 - Nancy came & vacuumed & other tasks.  I took a shower.  Did laundry.
Mon., December 2, 2002 - New chair was delivered in p.m.  Played cards tonight.  Jim Eaton called to remind me of playing.
Tues., December 3, 2002 - Grace Ryon took me to hair dresser & came after me.  Went down to Delores' & played Rummikub.

I got nuthin'.  Here's a photo of Barney, obviously not feeling guilty about nearly wrecking the hay feeder.
