My grandmother died in 2005. She did not own a computer. I think she could have mastered some computer skills, but she had plenty of interests and activities and friends to keep her engaged in the world. She wrote things down, not fictional stories but events of her life, both past and present. After she died, I was given the honor of keeping some of her writings. I thought starting a blog with them might be fun. I hope readers will find it enjoyable. Thanks for stopping by.

Big stuff
Wed., September 18, 2002 - After work Nancy took me to North Bend where we met Greta. Then I went on to Winside. Raymond Iversen flew into Lincoln at 9:00 P.M. -- for a 2 weeks visit.
Thurs., September 19, 2002 - Called Myrtle in A.M. - pretended I was still in Lincoln. Then to Rabe's to get my quilt that Arlene had quilted. Visited & had coffee & cookies. Then to cafe for chicken fried steak. Met Lena, Edna & Otto Carstens there. Elsie Janke had a doctor's appointment so I didn't see her. Lester fell & Greta had to go home so she didn't eat with us. In P.M. we went to Myrtle's. Lois told us not to tell her too far ahead of time we were coming -- she gets all worked up & tries to do things. Had a real nice visit. Greta & I played Rummikub in evening.
Fri., September 20, 2002 - Went to Oberle's in morning. Happened to see Dorothy Jo as she was headed for the bank. She came to the house & we had a lovely visit. In P.M. we went to see Sophia Morris. John is in the nursing home -- he's getting Alzheimer's & Sophia couldn't take care of him. She still crochets & pieces quilts but is hard of hearing. Rather hard to visit with her. Rummikub in evening.
Busy few days for Grandma leading to longer diary entries for her. Giving me carpal tunnel syndrome here.
Chicken fried steak is one of those foods I absolutely love but don't have often, which is likely a good thing for my waistline. Photo from the Food Network.

Just stuff
Sun., September 15, 2002 - Nancy & I to IHOP for brunch. Then grocery shopping & I really splurged. Back to the apartment for "nap" & shower.
Mon., September 16, 2002 - Tired in morning. The card group came here to play this evening. The Party Room was being used. Wayne, Bob, Jim, Grace & Ethel were here. I won 3 games!!!
Tues., September 17, 2002 - Usual hair do. Mary couldn't come after me so Dolores helped out. Tom & Maria here a little while in evening.
I had a bit of a start when I saw the name Wayne, but obviously it wasn't Nancy's Wayne. Just took me by surprise. But, I'm a bit sleep deprived lately due to two rejected baby goats I have the pleasure of feeding every four hours. Thankfully they have each other for company and warmth and don't have to live in the house. Not sure how they will do, but they sure are cute. I'm calling them Bobby and Cissy.

Out and abouting on a safari
Thur., September 12, 2002 - Tom renewed or added to my ATT calling card. Called Myrtle in a.m. Baked banana bread & sticky rolls. Tom here for supper. He brought food from Applebee's -- good barbecued ribs. Laundry & shower as usual.
Fri., September 13, 2002 - Rained this morning. I started reading Bob Kerrey's "When I was a Young Man". Irene Johnson gave it to me at Book Club thinking I'd enjoy it.
Sat., September 14, 2002 - Nancy, Mitch, Dane & I went to the Safari at Mahoney State Park. We saw elk, buffalo, sand hill cranes, pelicans, deer and wild turkeys. Nancy, Mitch & Dane took a 1/4 mile hike. They saw a wolf & some bears. We ate at a pizza place in Ashland. On way home we stopped at Dairy Queen. Had a most enjoyable day. Cloudy at first but never too hot.
Nancy, if you had photos and was missing a date for them, I have one for you right here.
I can imagine they all did have a great time.
